Vasilopita Day 2023

The first day of Greek School at Zenon has been traditionally marked with the cutting of Vasilopita. It is Vasilopita Day!

Vasilopita is a traditional Greek cake served on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the life of Saint Basil. After baking the cake, a coin is inserted through the base and when cut the person who finds the coin is said to be granted luck for the rest of the year!

This year on the Friday Campus Year 2 students were the lucky ones. They found the coin and were very happy to acknowledge it. In the Saturday Campus the coin was discovered in an unexpected piece of Vasilopita. Everyone was looking at their piece and could not see it. Then some were wondering if the baker forgot to place a coin in there when the Vasilopita was baked.

The last piece was left alone as it was the School piece. Nobody expected the coin to be in the school piece. But then when everyone was laughing and blaming the baker, someone said: Did we have a look at the last piece which is for the Zenon Greek School? They all looked at each other and someone rushed over to turn that last piece over. There it was where nobody expected to find it. The coin was discovered in the School’s piece, and because the school could not eat that piece, children were lining up to get a second cut of a delicious Vasilopita…

Here we have some of the photos which are showing all the smiling faces, all the joy and happiness that can only come in this manner from our kids !!
