On Sunday, March 31st 2019, a number of our students took part in the commemoration of the heroes who gave their lives for freedom and justice to their small country in the Eastern Mediterranean. The event took place at the Cyprus Community of Melbourne venue in Brunswick. Present were the President of the Cyprus Community Mr Stelios Aggelodimou, the High Commissioner of Cyprus to Australia Mrs Martha Mavrommatis, the President of SEKA Ms Helen Efthimiou and other VIPs from various organisations in the community.
Zenon students sang songs and recited poetry in the Greek language from the struggle of independence of the Cypriot people from British rule.
At the end of the program the Cyprus High Commissioner, obviously very excited about the presentation by Zenon students, presented them with awards in an atmosphere full of emotion.
The program was organised and guided by Ms Kathy Georgiou, whilst a number of other young people presented parts of the history of this struggle and the names of more than 200 heroes were announced.
However, the stars of the whole show on the day were the young students, all dressed with their Zenon Polo top and all smiling have presented their poems with great of success. At the end of the program the National Anthems of Greece and Australia were sang by the students and everyone else present.
Zenon would like to thank these parents who took the time to arrive at the venue, bring their children to the other side of Melbourne in order to participate. The memories gained by our young generation are surely going to remain in their minds for a long – long time. Please enjoy some of the photos from this successful night.
